Perennials & Pollinators

Updated: Jan 12

Hello Lovelies!!

Lets talk about perennials & pollinators and their importance in the garden! Pollinators will natural be drawn to your garden. The more pollinators that visit the happier your garden will be! Fruits and vegetables rely on bees and other pollinators to help them grow especially fruit trees. Without bees you'll likely yield no fruit at all. Manual pollination can work but typically leads to in bread plants and low to no yield. Most vegetables can self pollinate but bugs are still essential to the health and longevity of your garden. A lack of bees can drop yield percentage by 40% in self pollenating plants. So what can we do to attract and keep these busy bees happy?

Lets start with introducing Perennials! Perennials are wonderful for the garden as they come back every year! Each season perennials will provide unique interest and give your garden an established look. They will attract all kinds of beautiful butterflies and bees to your garden. Bees will travel up to 3 miles in search of pollen and water. Once they find a good source they'll be frequent visitors!

Some on the best perennials are salvia, dianthus lavender, and cone flower.

Now Let's talk about water for these hard workers! After all their work in garden they’ll be very thirsty. So let’s set up a nice little water garden. This will give a safe and refreshing source of water to the bees and butterfly’s.

This is an image I grabbed off Google as an example. You can use a number of things for you water garden, such as a birdbath, fountain or as simple as a drainage plate. Get creative and use rocks, sticks, or glass marbles to give the bees a safe place to land. Fill your water garden so the tops of the rocks are above the water and set out for all your garden visitors to enjoy!
