Lets Plan A Garden!

Updated: Jan 12

Lets plan a garden! Its January... That means its time to get inspired! December is a time of rest for the gardener. Much needed after a long growing season, but now its time to rise. Finding inspiration amongst the gray days of January can be hard. But we must look at garden like its in full bloom full of potential! Take the time to reflect on last years garden what grew and what didn’t do... There is not such a thing as a fail in the garden. Each failure is an opportunity for growing success. Take everything you learned last season and reflect it on this years growing season.

Waiting to start your seeds can be agonizing... Depending on your growing zone this can be a great time to start your cold hardy plants. Such as broccoli, cauliflower, and virtues of lettuce and cabbage! Also in a few weeks you can direct sew your beets radishes and carrots(if your in zone 7b like me).

How to plan your growing season?

To start you want to figure out your growing zone. Which can easily be done with a quick google search! Simply search 'what is the growing zone for' & type in your city and zip code. Next you’ll want to find your last estimated frost date. Now that you know your growing zone it will be easy to find! A simple google search should do the trick!

Cold hardy plants can be started 12-18 weeks between the last frost date while things such as summer veggies shouldn’t be started till 6 weeks before the last frost date! Most summer veggies can be direct sewn. But you may want to get a head start with things like tomatoes and herbs. Planning you garden space monthly is important to a productive garden. Every few weeks things will be moving out of your garden space and can be replaced by something new! Don’t get overwhelmed by your harvest and stager your planting so you'll have a longer harvest time. It makes fresh eating much easier.

Below is a free printable garden planner! I suggest printing one plant log for each plant to track their progress! Also a "Garden Goals" for each planting season! This free printable is a small portion of my soon to be published 2022 growing season planner! I would love to hear your feed back and things you think should be included!
