Hello Lovelies!
Lets talk about the magic of companion planting! If you've never heard of this method of gardening it will change the way you look at your plants! Last season I thought I would give it a try and see if it was actually worth my time.
The theory is every plant has a companion plant or plants. They also have foe plants. Foe plants will hinder the growth of the sounding plants. Such as tomatoes and potatoes they’re closely related & potatoes are far more susceptible to blight. If they’re planted near one another they’ll pass the disease back and forth. But tomatoes planted with basil will be very beneficial. Basil prevents hornworms when planted with tomatoes! Companion planting will dramatically increase productivity & will help with pest control.
Some plants attract bugs while other ward them off. Some plants act as bug traps luring bugs to them to keep other plants safe. You can’t completely rid your garden of aphids and troublesome pests. But you keep the rest of your plants safe by planting things such as nasturtiums, & parsnips. They attract ladybugs, spiders and praying mantises that will eat other non beneficial insects!
Lats season I plant loads of basil & onions around my tomatoes & the difference was astounding! They produced more than ever and I didn’t see the first hornworm! Hopefully this will help you in your garden as well! I have compiled a list of wonderful companion plants as well as their foes! I hope you enjoy the downloadable lists as much as enjoyed creating it
Happy Planting!
